Embracing Our Differences – Call to Artists
DEADLINE JANUARY 3, 2007
Sarasota, FL 2D, 3D
Embracing Our Differences, scheduled for the entire month of April, 2007, at Island Park along Sarasota’s bayfront, is an outdoor juried art exhibition consisting of 39 works of art. Since 2004, more than 250,000 visitors have viewed the exhibit. The exhibit is intended to demonstrate that:diversity enriches our lives, respect for differences in our thoughts and beliefs elevates the human experience, active rejection of prejudice and hatred enhances our own freedom. Artists are asked to submit their interpretation of the theme Embracing Our Differences no later than December 31, 2006 and are encouraged to collaborate with artists in other disciplines. For example, a photographer might work with a dancer or a painter might work with a poet. Collaboration epitomizes the theme of Embracing Our Differences. Who can participate? Artist, photographers, teachers, students — everyone can participate. What are the criteria? Final selection will be chosen based primarily on the visual impact of the image and reflection of the theme embracing our differences. The artwork will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size — 16 feet wide by 11 feet high. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines. How is artwork submitted?
