Bitter Fruits: A Study of Woman as object in art

Published by TheArtList.com at 7:11 pm under Art Competitions

DEADLINE DECEMBER 15, 2007
Bitter Fruits: A Study of Woman as object in art. United States Minnesota, Minneapolis – Contests, Juried Art Shows, Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Glass, Mosiac, Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Watercolor, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Poetry, Video/Film Art Gallery The history of art has largely been written by works that resulted from and served to perpetuate the male gaze. These works tell us a great deal about the roles women have played in art and society, and also about how women are viewed today. Altered Esthetics’ February exhibition, Bitter Fruit, will examine how contemporary artists–both male and female–deal with this shared history, and where it has left us. We hope to illuminate the issue through a selection of work that comments not only upon this history, but upon the possibility of a future located outside the conventional narrative history of art. Artists are encouraged to participate in panel discussions that will accompany the show. * There is no fee for submission. http://www.alteredesthetics.com/2008SubmissionGuidelinesandForm.pdf
